PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) - Richard Hatch is back in prison. He showed up at a courthouse in Rhode Island to begin a nine-month prison sentence for not paying taxes on the $1 million he won on first season of "Survivor."
Before going inside, Hatch told reporters he's innocent.
He's appealed his case and says he hopes to be out of prison soon. Hatch already spent three years in prison for tax evasion before being released in 2009 and was serving a three-year term of supervised release. During that period, he was supposed to refile his 2000 and 2001 taxes and pay what he owed, but he never did.
Hatch, who's currently a contestant on "Celebrity Apprentice," now owes an estimated $2 million to the IRS. That includes penalties on top of the taxes on his "Survivor" winnings.
