INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Two different families are warning people about visitors showing up at their front doors in the middle of the night. It’s suspicious activity that has them on edge too.
One of the incidents happened overnight Thursday. The victims are warning people on social media.
A man who was caught on camera on a front porch gave the homeowners a serious scare waking them up around 2:30 a.m.
Adrienne and Jed Fuller have lived in their home for about two years and have never had anything like this happen, especially while they are sound asleep.
“The doorbell rang and someone is knocking,” said Jed Fuller, “and she starts hitting me, and I said I hear it, I hear it. So the first thing I thought was to look at the camera."
The camera shows the strange unidentified man not only ring the doorbell but also knock and turn the doorknob to try to get into their locked front door. What is even scarier is that alone was a close call.
“Our kids come in and out of our front door a lot so every now and then our front door gets accidentally left open," said Adrienne. "So we wanted our neighborhoods to know, double check your doors."
Adrienne and Jed posted the suspicious activity on the app Nextdoor.
They are trying to get the word out about the late night visitor so other families will be on alert. They live just off a busy street on the south side of Indianapolis that also has a lot of foot traffic.
Dr. Mat Vogt spends his days fixing smiles at The Dentists at Gateway Crossing. He has an account on the app Nextdoor and he is also warning other people about a similar situation.
He lives near 16th Street and College Avenue. He too had the same experience in the middle of the night.
He used Nextdoor to give detailed descriptions and tell what happened at his home.
“I went to the door and I looked through the peep hole and it's a guy and girl and she said her name is Tori and said she needs help and it felt really weird," said Vogt.
Matt had a funny feeling in his gut and knew something wasn’t right. He offered to call the police for the couple and that ended their unexpected visit.
After leaving Matt’s home, he continued to watch the couple and noticed they did the same thing at other peoples' doors. Now he hopes his neighbors see his post and will take precautions to stay safe.
Adrienne and Jed's home security includes their dog Cane. They have plans to improve their home security camera system. They have always made it a point to use the house alarm.
But now they too hope other families will take heed to their warning regardless of what neighborhood they live in.
“It was a reminder to us to button everything up," said Adrienne.
Both victims suggest that if you have someone visit you in the middle of the night with suspicious behavior, call the police.
If you have any information on who is doing, this call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.
