INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A reserve police officer was arrested Tuesday on allegations he used his law enforcement position in "an attempted scare tactic" involving his 15-year-old son.
Timothy Hayes Jr., 37, turned himself in Tuesday morning.
State police began an investigation last month after school officials reported "a situation that occurred off school property" involving the teen.
A state police investigation alleges that Hayes left his son handcuffed and unattended for more than 30 minutes in an intake holding section at the Southport police station.
Hayes serves as a police reserve at Southport.
The report says Hayes then drove the boy to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center and parked in a police lot. Neither Hayes or the teen exited the car at the APC.
Police said the pair then returned to their Franklin home.
Hayes Jr. faces felony charges of criminal confinement and neglect of a dependent.
ISP says Southport placed Hayes on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
