INDIANAPOLIS — When you step inside Rene's Bakery, there's a sense of comfort.
As those croissants are pulled out of the oven, you'll meet two new bakers.
"It's unreal that we are in this position," Isaac Roman said.
Twenty years ago, Albery Trevino opened the Broad Ripple bakery. But in April, he was diagnosed with cancer and made the decision to close.
That's when his bread maker Isaac Roman and Thomas Hays bought the business.
"I want to keep it going just how I think he would run it because he created this place and did such a great job," Roman said. "For selfish reasons, I wanted to keep making croissants the same way he does."
This weekend, Rene's was back in business. With lines out the door and sellouts within hours, the owners say it was overwhelming.
"Everybody's happy, it's a bakery, a happy place," Roman said.
The small blue building holds so many memories for the community and while the owners want to hold on to its legacy, they hope to expand it in the future.
"First and foremost, we want it to be Rene's but we have our own ideas and we want to add to Rene's," Thomas Hays said.
Adding more love and pastries to this community.
"This is our passion, it's not just a job, it's everything," both said.
