Remembering Burger Chef victims at Speedway park

People from the community gathered at Leonard Park in Speedway over the weekend to dedicate four trees, one each for Jayne Friedt, Ruth Ellen Shelton, Mark Flemmonds, and Daniel Davis.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — There's a new way to remember the victims of the Burger Chef murders.

People from the community gathered at Leonard Park in Speedway over the weekend to dedicate four trees, one each for Jayne Friedt, Ruth Ellen Shelton, Mark Flemmonds, and Daniel Davis.

Each tree has a plaque next to it, telling people a little more about each of their lives. Alex Wisemiller, who started the fundraising effort for the project, came up with the inscriptions for the plaques after talking with family members and friends, as well as doing research online.

Mark was friendly and selfless, with a sense of style.

Daniel was a talented photographer, who made loved ones smile.

Jayne was a leader with a sense of humor and a heart of gold.

Ruth was creative, honest and kind with a love for music.

Wisemiller said that during the event, the murders weren't brought up a single time. Instead, people remembered the four for who they were and the lives they lived.

Jayne's brother and sister were at the dedication and tied her Burger Chef work tie to her tree.

Wisemiller said he still plans to put a concrete bench near those trees in the future.
