INDIANAPOLIS — Registration for the 500 Festival KidsFit Program is now open.
Aimed at kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, the program is in its 11th year. It encourages active, healthy lifestyles through a combination of running, walking and classroom lessons and meets Department of Education standards for health and PE curriculum.
Students will run or walk a mile each week. By the end of the program, participants will have completed 13.1 miles, the equivalent of a half marathon.
KidsFit participants will be invited to finish the final 3.1 miles of their program as part of their own wave at the May 3 Delta Dental 5K, which happens on the same day as the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in downtown Indianapolis.
“The 500 Festival KidsFit Program inspires students to have fun while discovering the joy of running, helping them chase the importance of fitness and healthy habits. We hope to instill a love of fitness and a sense of accomplishment in students, encouraging them to grow and challenge themselves to reach their goals,” 500 Festival CEO Bob Bryant said.
Teachers and group organizers can register now at IndyMini.com/KidsFit.
