Purdue auctioning off custom guitar made of old Mackey Arena floor planks

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Purdue Guitar Lab.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue fans — and maybe even some interested IU fans — have a chance to bid on a custom-made guitar that pays tribute to Boilermakers basketball.

Prior to Saturday night's Purdue/Indiana rivalry basketball game, an electric guitar made out of old floor planks that used to make up the court at Mackey Arena was played during the national anthem.

It will now be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Feb. 14.

Gryphon Mawhorter made the guitar, which features the Purdue logo on its fretboard and small trains as fret markers.

All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the Purdue Guitar Lab.
