INDIANAPOLIS — Families got the chance to connect with resources in the city Wednesday through the Indy Public Safety Foundation.
The agency hosted "Fathers Fun Fest" in conjunction with the new Frederick Douglass Family Center.
Organizers said data shows men are more impacted by gun violence than women and said Wednesday's event is about empowering dads and offering support.
"These moments are super important on changing the narrative," said Shardae Hoskins of the Indy Peace Fellowship. "Fathers are present, they're in the home, they're taking care of their young people, and sometimes they get left out of the conversation. Fathers get ties and socks, and we love ties and socks, but we're just here to provide a little some extra."
The Public Safety Foundation and the city's Office of Public Health and Safety aim to address the root causes of crime in Indianapolis. City leaders say helping people combat food insecurity and find jobs can create a safer Indianapolis.
