INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Kinetrex Energy and South Side Landfill celebrated the completion of the state's largest renewable natural gas plant.
The plant will be fully operational March 20.
Tuesday they cut the ribbon on the new facility, which will convert landfill methane gas into 8 million gallons of pipeline-quality renewable gas every year.
This will reduce greenhouse gas air emissions and fuel transportation fleets across the Midwest.
"Today we are bolstering the economies of both our city and our great state with an investment in sustainable energy and this will not be the first," Mayor Joe Hogsett said.
Kinetrex also announced a six year agreement with UPS to power some of their fleets.
