President Benjamin Harrison Home recognizes Presidents' Day

Indianapolis - The President Benjamin Harrison Home will recognize Presidents' Day with the opening of its major exhibit of 2009, entitled "William Henry Harrison: Tippecanoe and History Too" Monday, February 16 at 10 a.m. at the museum at 1230 North Delaware Street.

The new exhibit will document W.H.H.'s life from 1790 until his death in 1841. Among the treasured artifacts on display will be William Henry's appointment as Envoy to Columbia in 1828 signed by John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay; one of the last letters written by W.H.H.; a piece of Captain Spier Spencer's flag from the Battle of Tippecanoe.

On this special day, the Harrison Home also will be flying an official presidential flag as the only location in Indiana authorized to fly presidential flags.

In addition, Monday's visitors to the Harrison Home will be treated to "LIVE from Delaware Street" re-enactment tours. The special exhibit will be included in the tour admission to the home.

The price of admission to the Harrison Home is: adults (ages 18 to 64) $9; seniors (ages 65 and older) $6; students (ages 5 to 17) $4.

The President Benjamin Harrison Foundation, Inc., is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization, which sees its mission to be increasing public understanding of, appreciation for, and participation in the American system of self-government through the life stories of an American President.

The Foundation preserves and maintains the historic 1875 Italianate Victorian home of the 23rd President as a museum and memorial, accredited by the American Association of Museums. The three-level landmark home contains many of Harrison's paintings, furniture, and decorative arts including unique political memorabilia. More information is available on the home's web site.
