INDIANAPOLIS — Police say claims that a serial murderer is targeting Indianapolis are not true.
Those rumors have prompted lots of questions to the 13News VERIFY team.
Social media posts shared thousands of times claim there is a serial killer in Indianapolis currently targeting women and teenagers, and that more than a dozen bodies had been found
On Friday, an Indianapolis Metro Police spokesperson told 13News it was aware that "information has been posted on social media alleging there are homicides and sexual offenses occurring that have similarities which would indicate a serial offender occurring in Indianapolis. Our detectives do not have information to support these allegations."
The online claims began spreading earlier this week after police found three bodies in a vacant lot along South Meridian Street. The victims had all been shot. Those homicides remain under investigation.
