UNION CITY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a school bus crashed into a building in Union City Wednesday morning.
The Union City Police Department investigated the crash at the intersection of West Hickory and Jackson streets on Nov. 6 involving a bus from the Randolph County Eastern School Corporation.
Neal Adams, the school district's superintendent, confirmed 20 students and the 69-year-old bus driver were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Three students were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The students' injuries were said to be minor. The bus driver was being evaluated at a Muncie hospital.
The rest of the students were taken to school or released to their parents.
On Wednesday evening, the police department said a preliminary investigation leads them to believe the driver of the bus had a medical episode before the crash.
"Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of everyone in the area," the Union City Police Department said in a post on social media.
The Union City Police and Randolph County Sheriff's departments are investigating the incident.
Union City is approximately 100 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis.
