Police investigate deadly crash on I-65 in Shelby County

The crash happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near State Road 252.

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. — Police say one person is dead after he was struck on Interstate 65 near Edinburgh Wednesday night.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 9 p.m. Dec. 6 near State Road 252 around the Shelby/Johnson County line.

The spokesperson said officers responding to a report of a serious crash found a man on the ground unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates a pickup truck pulling a trailer had stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. A semi tractor trailer struck the truck while the man was standing near it. The man was killed when he was struck by the wreckage, police said.

ISP said the semi driver submitted to chemical tests for intoxication, but neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
