SPENCER COUNTY, Indiana — Detectives with the Indiana State Police found the body of a missing man from southern Indiana.
On Monday, Oct. 7, the body Justin MacDonald was found in the Ohio River at the Newburgh Lock and Dam.
ISP said multiple agencies responded to the area and recovered his body from the river.
An autopsy was performed at the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, Oct. 8 that confirmed the body as MacDonald.
ISP said the death was ruled an accidental drowning after "no signs of foul play or trauma were found."
MacDonald was from St. Meinrad, Indiana. He was last seen around 11 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 near the French Island Marina on River Road and County Road 1040 West in Spencer County.
Spencer County is approximately 165 miles south of downtown Indianapolis.
Amber Alert vs. Silver Alert: What's the difference?
There are specific standards a person's disappearance must meet in order for police to declare an Amber Alert or a Silver Alert.
Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are believed to have been abducted and in danger. Police also need to have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.
Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common for missing people. It was not until last year when the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.
In both situations, these alerts must be issued by police.
