Plane destroyed by fire after crashing at Marion Airport

Officials say a plane has crashed at the Marion Municipal Airport in Grant County Sunday afternoon.

MARION, Ind. (WTHR) – Officials say a plane has crashed at the Marion Municipal Airport in Grant County Sunday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration says a single-engine Cessna 182 crashed while landing at the Marion airport around 4:20 p.m.

Witnesses tell Eyewitness News they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the airport.

According to an FAA spokesman, the aircraft was destroyed by the fire.

Officials say four people were on board at the time of the crash but their conditions are unknown at this time.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation.

This is the second plane crash in Indiana today.

This morning, a man was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries after crashing a plane at Anderson Municipal Airport.
