BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — Police in Boone County are investigating after a pickup truck driver was killed in a crash with a dump truck Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported around 2 p.m. Sept. 16 in the 3000 block of State Road 47 East. That's just west of the community of Elizaville and around eight miles northwest of Lebanon.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office said first responders found a Chevy pickup truck in the road with "significant damage" and an overturned dump truck.

The pickup truck driver, identified by police as 34-year-old Kyle Smith, of Kirklin, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck driver, a 61-year-old Lafayette man, was taken to a local hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries," the sheriff's office said.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is now investigating the incident.
