INDIANAPOLIS — A pedestrian was struck by a train and critically injured on Indianapolis' west side Saturday morning.
Around 6:30 a.m. Oct. 21, Wayne Township Fire Department crews responded to the 1500 block of South Research Way, north of Indianapolis International Airport near West Morris Street and South Girls School Road, for a report of a person struck by a train.
Firefighters found a female who had been hit by a train and thrown down a 30-foot embankment.
"Fire crews had to climb up to the train tracks, climb down to reach the patient, set a rope rescue system to bring her to the train tracks, and then reset the system to lower her back to the street," the Wayne Township Fire Department said in a post on social media.
The female was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the department said.
