Driver pulled from submerged car at Frankfort Lagoons

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023.

FRANKFORT, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is investigating after a woman was pulled from a car submerged in water at the Frankfort Lagoons Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Nov. 19, first responders were called to the lagoons for a report of a submerged vehicle. A Frankfort man, who was a passenger in the car, was able to get out, the Frankfort Police Department said, but the driver was still inside when crews arrived.

Police officers and sheriff's deputies attempted to rescue the driver, a Frankfort woman. Frankfort firefighters pulled the woman from the car, and she was taken to IU Health Frankfort Hospital.

The woman was later transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in critical condition, Indiana DNR said in a statement Monday afternoon.

The car was recovered Monday morning by conservation office divers. The incident remains under investigation.
