Court documents obtained by 13News detail how a woman allegedly told her brother she had been previously assaulted by Hampton. That conversation happened as both siblings were working  a shift at the Family Dollar. The woman reportedly told her brother about the assault because Hampton kept calling her while at work.

Shortly after, Hampton reportedly showed up to the Family Dollar in what she told police was an effort to harass her at work. The woman told police the conversation got heated, and she was concerned for her safety when Hampton said he was "going to kill her," according to court documents. She also believed she saw a gun at Hampton's hip.

At that point, court documents said the woman's brother hit Hampton in the face with a can of food in an effort to protect her. Hampton then allegedly pulled a pistol from his hip and fired shots at the woman's brother.

Video surveillance of the incident reportedly showed the woman working behind the cash register when Hampton walked in. Hampton was allegedly seen speaking with the woman when her brother walked up behind him and eventually hit him in the face with a can of food.

The brother then allegedly started chasing Hampton before he pulled out a gun and started to chase him. Hampton could reportedly be seen chasing the brother inside the Family Dollar through the front doors before starting to shoot at him. Officers reportedly saw Hampton fire at least one round before Hampton and the brother were out of the view of cameras.

Hampton reportedly told police he had been seeing the woman but did not know her name, and that she requested he go to the Family Dollar. He believed he fired 2-4 shots at the woman's brother.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions.
