PepsiCo closing Muncie beverage facility

In a letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the company plans to eliminate 45 jobs and close the facility by Dec. 31.

MUNCIE, Ind. — PepsiCo, Inc. will completely exit Muncie by the end of the year, the company announced Friday.

On the heels of their June closure of the Muncie Pepsi plant, the company will also shutter its Pepsi Beverages facility by the end of the year.

The closure is expected to affect 45 employees out of 101 currently employed at the facility.

According to a letter sent by PepsiCo to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the company expects to permanently lay off warehouse workers, drivers, forklift operators and other positions at the company.

“These affected employees will be paid wages and benefits through their last day of employment with PepsiCo, Inc.,” the letter reads.

PepsiCo also said the company will provide information to impacted employees about other openings and are working to place them at other facilities nearby.

The company's contract with the Teamsters Local 135 says impacted workers will be afforded bidding rights and will be governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.
