71-year-old man struck, killed along Michigan Road on Indy's northwest side

The crash was reported just before 11 p.m. Monday.

INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation is underway after a crash on Indianapolis' northwest side killed a pedestrian Monday night.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m.  June 17 on North Michigan Road at Depauw Boulevard, which is just south of Interstate 465.

An IMPD spokesperson said two people were walking across Michigan Road when one of them was struck by a vehicle. The victim was wearing dark clothing and wasn't seen by the driver until the crash, according to police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured, IMPD said. The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man killed as 71-year-old Humberto Rodriguez-Garcia.

The spokesperson told 13News the driver of the vehicle submitted to legally required tests for intoxication, but added investigators don't suspect impairment was a factor in the crash.
