CLAY COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police is investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian in Clay County.
Around 8:15 p.m. Dec. 25, ISP troopers responded to reports of a pedestrian walking on Interstate 70, near Prairie City, and then received another report of the person being hit by a car.
The victim, later identified by the Clay County Coroner's Office as 33-year-old Fredy Romas Escobar of Kansas City, Kansas, was confirmed dead when troopers arrived.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle pulled over, called 911 and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
In an update Jan. 5, state police said its investigation indicated Escobar had stopped at a gas station on State Road 59 near Interstate 70. He was seen inside the gas station with two other males before getting into a red car (pictured below) with the two males and a female and leaving the gas station.
Around 20 minutes later, Escobar was seen walking on I-70 and was struck.
