28-year-old pedestrian killed in south Indianapolis crash

Officers responded to the intersection of East Stop 11 Road and Madison Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. on a report of a crash.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police say a pedestrian has died in a crash on the far south side Friday evening.

Officers responded to the intersection of East Stop 11 Road and Madison Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Feb. 9 on a report of a crash. Police have confirmed at least one person died in the crash.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the pedestrian as 28-year-old Shomari Idd Hamadi.

The driver that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene, according to an IMPD spokesperson. That person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital for a blood draw, part of standard procedure in the investigation of crashes resulting in a fatality.

Drivers and pedestrians were asked to seek an alternate route during the investigation.
