BEECH GROVE, Ind. — On Wednesday, Nov. 27, the city of Beech Grove will open the new "peanut" roundabout at the intersections of Churchman, Perkins and Southern.

The roundabout was built using $1.5 million from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization. The project also received roughly $450,000 from the City of Beech Grove.

Work started in May, just days after a crash in the intersection.

“This project has been critical to fixing a dangerous intersection and safely improving access to our city for our residents and visitors,” Beech Grove Mayor James Coffman said in a statement. “We are grateful to the Indianapolis MPO for making such a key investment in our community, along with the residents and business who were impacted by the construction schedule. While it may take a few turns to get used to, ultimately, the roundabout will make for smoother traffic and safer travel.”

Street closures for the intersection began on May 13.

The new "peanut" roundabout replaces a sometimes-confusing triangle intersection.
