INDIANAPOLIS — Over 300 teams from across the state competed Saturday in the Indiana State Robotics Championship.
Teams from elementary, middle and high schools are competing inside of Lucas Oil Stadium on March 23 for a state title and chance to go to the world championships.
"You have to have really good communication because if you don't you probably won't score anything," one player said.
In the largest robotics competition in the nation, only 22 of the teams will get a bid to the VEX Robotics World Championship.
"Even though we are competing against each other we really don't have a feud, we are all working together to create a community," one player said.
As teams took the stage, they hoped people in the crowd saw this is an activity anyone can do.
"You typically don't see all girls' teams and it's getting harder to get girls into STEM," Crown Point team players said. "The more we are bale to bring in girls to join and be an engineer or scientist is amazing, we are just making an impact just being a team."
Organizers tell 13News while students learn technical skills, they also have more that will help them in the future.
"They are problem solving for fun," George Giltner, President and CEO of TechPoint said. "I mean this is the future of next generation's work force."
