WTHR beat TV stations in major cities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio to win the award. WTHR is the only station in Indianapolis that was recognized by the RTDNA with a 2020 Murrow Award.
"What I am especially proud of is that this award is a future-thinking award—it shines a spotlight on the excellence of our storytelling across both broadcast and digital platforms, incorporating the efforts of our broadcast journalists, digital and social content team, design, creative services and production," said Michael Brouder, WTHR's President and General Manager. "Great journalism, thoughtful visualization, and a keen eye towards presenting appropriate content across a variety of distribution platforms all come together in a way that meets our viewers where they are."
WTHR's parent company, TEGNA, had a very strong showing with the awards. TEGNA stations were awarded 88 Edward R. Murrow Awards in total across 29 separate stations, more than any other local broadcast group in the country.
