INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a deadly crash on the near northeast side of downtown Indianapolis Thursday evening.
The crash happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. June 13 on North Keystone Avenue, near 32nd Street. According to police, a man who was riding a bicycle fell off the bike, and the driver of semi-truck tried to swerve out of the way but hit the man. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 51-year-old Charles L. Moore.
Police said the semi driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, submitting to a blood draw, which is standard procedure in deadly crashes.
Keystone Avenue was closed in both directions while police investigated the crash.
Latrice Talbert has lived in her home on Keystone Avenue for nine years. She said the traffic in the area makes her feel unsafe when she goes on walks.
"It's a problem that needs to be fixed. They use Keystone as an expressway. There should be some more stop signs, something more going on because it's really not safe," Talbert said.
Talbert believes Thursday's crash could have been prevented. She said she would like to see the city do something to slow down the cars to prevent this from happening to someone else.
"The fact that we have children playing up and down here, anything could happen. As you see, someone died today," Talbert said.
