Officer-involved shooting investigated in Kokomo

It happened in a business parking lot on the city's east side.

KOKOMO, Ind. — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Monday evening on Kokomo's east side. 

Dispatchers got reports of gunshots fired in the area of Markland Avenue and Goyer Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. Police found a male standing outside a truck behind a Goodwill store at 2258 East Markland Ave. According to KPD, "the subject displayed a handgun. The officer fired shots injuring the subject. The officer immediately called for medics to the scene to render aid."

After being sent to a local hospital, 18-year-old Cody Wright was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital. He was last listed in serious condition.

The officer that fired the shots has only been identified as a seven-year veteran. No officers were injured.
