Nonprofit organization, led by Indianapolis teens, feeds 250 families

The founder of the organization is just 16 years old.

INDIANAPOLIS — More than 250 families received a helping hand for their holiday meal at the second annual CC Cares food giveaway Friday.

Cameron Washington, 16, is founder of the organization and hosted the giveaway at their meeting location Dec. 15.

"I've been through a lot," Washington said. "I've been through the foster care system. We understand what really goes on in the community, so we want to, like he said, not just give back but feed into the community."

Washington said DCS donated $5,000 to the giveaway. The support gives people like Terrell Caudle and his family an opportunity to have a Christmas to remember.

"Around Christmastime, we had no food at all. I know this is going to make it better and make good memories," Caudle said.

The organization is making memories and feeding the community in more ways than one.

The second annual CC Cares food giveaway helped more than 250 families in Indianapolis on Dec. 15, 2023.

"I've lost a lot of friends this year. This is not normal for us. For kids and teenagers, my peers, this is not normal to us. It's not normal to see eight tables of food given out by youth, so the fact I can step out and show there's a different lane than what we got, I'm going to show it every day," Washington said.

For those who weren't able to take part on Friday, there's another opportunity to pick up food on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at the New B.O.Y. award ceremony at 10202 E. Washington St. in Indianapolis.
