NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — Noblesville West Middle School teacher Jason Seaman has received a "medal of heroism" from the local Kiwanis club.
Student Ella Whistler, who was shot multiple times in the May incident, actually presented him with the medal.
Seaman was also wounded as he tackled the shooter.
Noblesville West Resource Officer Michael Steffen and Noblesville Superintendent Beth Niedermeyer both attended the presentation.
Officer Steffen was the one who responded to the classroom and handcuffed the 13-year-old suspect.
The Connelly Medal of Heroism is presented by Kiwanis clubs to individuals who risk his or her life to save someone else’s.
The student behind the shooting will learn his punishment during a court appearance Wednesday.
