NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — St. Patrick's Day is coming up on March 17, and one local marching band is traveling all the way to Ireland to help celebrate.

The Noblesville Marching Millers will be flying out to Dublin, Ireland, for the program's first international trip. According to the band's website, the group's flight is set to depart Monday, March 11.

"Marching in Ireland for St. Patrick's Day is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the 'real world' education our students will learn from this trip will stay with them their entire lives," said Eric Thornbury, the band's director.

Thornbury also said the process to bring the band to Ireland began back in 2021. In order to be considered for this trip, marching bands must submit videos, letters of recommendation and have their resumes selected.

Bands are selected two to three years prior to their planned performance date, according to Thornbury.

The Marching Millers received their invitation to the 2024 parade in 2022.
