Noblesville Fire Department announces addition of new drone

The department said the drone can be equipped with various tools to help first responders better respond to emergencies.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — The Noblesville Fire Department has unveiled some new technology to help during emergencies.

On Monday, NFD announced it had added a drone to its fleet, which will provide firefighters and first responders with information that previously was either difficult or impossible to gather.

The drone itself has a 40-minute battery life and can reach a maximum speed of 51 miles per hour while being able to fly in headwinds of up to 33 mph. It can also function in extreme heat or cold.

It is capable of recording 4K-quality video using three different types of camera lenses. NFD says that depending on the task, the drone can be equipped with a loud speaker, searchlight or a drop system that would allow emergency personnel to deliver a variety of items in an emergency.
