Tippecanoe County - A Lafayette father is in trouble after police say he put his nine-year-old daughter behind the wheel of their mini-van because he was drunk.
Someone called authorities when they spotted a child driving the van Saturday night. When police approached the van, the officer found the girl behind the wheel, buckled up and crying.
Police say 32-year-old Matthew Dewitt was in the passenger seat. He registered a .20 on the breathalayzer.
Dewitt told police he wanted his daughter to learn how to drive. He faces charges of neglect of a dependent and public intoxication.
