NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A man was arrested Friday after he led law enforcement on a chase that ended with a totaled police car.
Officers with the New Castle Police Department, Henry County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police responded to a report of a suspect fleeing from a traffic stop in a vehicle on May 10.
Just as police officers attempted to stop the suspect car, it swerved into oncoming traffic before correcting and avoiding a head-on collision with an officer. Shortly after, officers deployed stop sticks at County Road 100 West and 25 West, but said the suspect recklessly avoided them by driving through nearby yards.
Finally, more stop sticks were deployed, and the suspect ended up ramming into a stationary New Castle police vehicle that was on the side of the road. Luckily, the police vehicle was unoccupied before the crash that totaled the car.
The suspect driver was minorly injured in the crash and was taken to the hospital before being released to the Henry County Jail.
He is now facing charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness and reckless driving.
