INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Did you know your pets should visit the dentist as regularly as humans do?
In honor of National Pet Dental Health Month, we're sharing some need-to-know information, courtesy of Pet Wellness Clinics.
According to Pet Wellness Clinics, dental disease affects eight out of 10 pets and is the most untreated condition in cats and dogs, and 70 to 85 percent of all dogs and cats older than 2 years old have some degree of periodontal disease.
Signs of dental disease include:
- Bad breath
- Loss of teeth, discoloration or covered in tartar
- Drooling or dropping food from the mouth
- Bleeding from the mouth
- Loss of appetite or loss of weight
If you're looking for at-home remedies, here's what you can do to help your pets:
- Brushing their teeth is the most effective way to prevent periodontal disease
- Daily brushing is ideal, but several times a week is proven effective
- Rinses, water additives, wipes and chews are also available to help
- Special diets
And just this month, you can save when scheduling a dental visit for your pets:
