INDIANAPOLIS — On Wednesday, New Direction Church and The National Bank of Indianapolis (NBI) partnered to announce the launch of “East 38th Street Renaissance.”
It’s an ongoing initiative to spark revitalization, economic empowerment and financial literacy in the surrounding community.
“The East 38th Street Renaissance represents our commitment to not just our congregation but to our entire neighborhood,” said Pastor Dr. Kenneth Sullivan Jr. of New Direction Church. “This partnership with The National Bank of Indianapolis underscores our shared belief in creating lasting change through economic opportunity and community development.”
The bank will work with the church to offer financial education workshops, one-on-one financial consultants, and down payment assistance to first-time home buyers.
“We are committed to serving this community in every way we can,” said Doug Talley, executive vice president of The National Bank of Indianapolis. “This partnership is giving us an opportunity to help drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for more Indianapolis residents. As one of the only locally owned national banks in Indianapolis, this is important to our mission.”
Ashley Gurvitz, a longtime advocate for the northeast side, hopes this new partnership will transform the community and bring new life to the corridor.
"When I say destination, I really want it to be one where it removes the barriers and stigmas of what the northeast side is often thought of,” Gurvitz said. "There are great people who are here day in and day out, so destination is another invitation to see really the greatness that we all encompass,” she said.
