MITCHELL, Ind. — Christmas is just one week away, and we're seeing lots of people and organizations helping Hoosiers in need.
That list includes a popular NASCAR driver.
Chase Briscoe made sure Christmas came early in his hometown of Mitchell, Indiana, where 700 kids got new bicycles Monday.
"Truthfully, none of this would have been possible without the Gene Haas Foundation, Huffy Bicycles, it's just been unbelievable," Briscoe said. "This building is brand new. This is kind of the opening kickoff for it, too. So to do it with 700 bicycles being given away, you know, kids all the way from kindergarten up to fifth grade. Some of my fondest memories in Mitchell were literally riding around all these streets with my buddies. I would make a race track out of chalk and we'd race and just ride up and downtown, so it's going to be really cool to be able to let these kids experience those same memories I had."
Briscoe said making the giveaway happen became a community event.
"Teachers, a ton of business owners, came and helped build these bikes, so it's just been really, really cool. Super appreciative," Briscoe said. "Indianapolis is going to do a really cool thing. IMS is going to give tickets to all the people who helped us build bikes, too, so just an awesome way to bring the community together. This community has been so good to me as far as supporting me, being behind me through the good years, the bad years and things like that and this is a small way to try to give back."
