MUNCIE, Ind. — The City of Muncie is mourning the loss of a Muncie Police Department officer.
In a Facebook post, the city confirmed Officer Josiah Mauller died Wednesday, Nov. 6 "after a brave and lengthy battle with illness." The department did not specify the illness.
"Throughout his career, Officer Mauller exemplified the highest standards of service, integrity, and commitment to the safety and well-being of our community," the city wrote in the post. "A 1.5 year veteran of the Muncie Police Department, Officer Mauller’s loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and worked alongside him."
The city said it will continue to support the Muncie Police Department, as well as those also affected by Mauller's death.
Details regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services will be shared as they become available.
