Muncie police chief confirms possible federal probe of department

Chief Joe Winkle confirmed to Eyewitness News he was aware of the subpoenas and that it means there is some sort of investigation.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) — A federal probe is likely happening involving the Muncie Police Department.

Chief Joe Winkle confirmed to Eyewitness News he was aware of the subpoenas and that it means there is some sort of investigation.

He does not know what the investigation is about.

The chief confirmed information has been requested about a lot of the calls Officer Chase Winkle has been on. Chase Winkle is the son of Chief Joe Winkle.

Officer Winkle has most recently served as the department's interim public information officer.

The information requested in the subpoenas involves about a dozen MPD cases.
