Muncie facility that makes parts for iconic Ball Mason jars to close

Newell Brands says they have made the difficult decision to close their manufacturing operations plant in Muncie.

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) - Newell Brands says they have made the difficult decision to close their manufacturing operations plant in Muncie.

The Muncie facility manufactures parts used in the assembly of fresh preserving containers, including the Ball-branded Mason jar.

Company officials say the Muncie jobs will be outsourced to Ball Metal Food Container in Columbus, Ohio and an existing Newell Brands Food Division facility in Fishers.

"As we are aware of the history this facility has in Muncie, it's our goal to ensure a smooth transition for all impacted employees and members of the community leading up to the facility's planned closing in summer 2019," a company spokesperson said.
