Indianapolis - About 30,000 people in Indianapolis had reason to be thankful Thursday. They received a traditional Thanksgiving dinner thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers.

The Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner served up 600 gallons of gravy with 11,000 pounds of turkey and enough cans of green beans to feed 30,000 people.

"We're only able to do it because of the strong spirit of volunteerism and the generosity of our donors," said Rev. Roosevelt Sanders, Mozel Sanders Foundation.

Many of the volunteers keep coming back every year. Thankful for their own blessings, they spend Thanksgiving helping others less fortunate.

"You're helping your neighbor. The second commandment is love they neighbor as you love thyself. So by giving to your neighbor, by participating in this wonderful offering that we do, it's such a rich blessing," said Flora Garrison.

"It makes me feel great. It makes me feel good inside to know that I am helping out other people that don't have what we have," said Shane Sparks.

The feeling is contagious

"As a matter of fact, I received a letter the other day with a donation and a young man told me how much this dinner meant to him as a young boy and how we impacted his life then and now he's going to be giving donations every year for the rest of his life," said Rev. Sanders.

The meals were then delivered to 36 satellite locations in central Indiana, most of them churches. For those who ordered individual meals, Thanksgiving dinner came right to their home. It was a gift of love from 2,000 volunteers to their doorstep.
