ANDERSON, Ind. (WTHR) — Mounds Mall shut its doors for the last time Saturday.
It was a piece of the community for more than 50 years. In fact, it was the oldest enclosed shopping mall in Indiana.
Mounds suffered some big losses recently, including the loss of Carson’s earlier this year and Sears back in 2012.
We caught up with some shoppers who stopped by one last time Saturday.
"I think it's tragic. And I think it's going to be a huge blow for the community of Anderson," 12-year-old Breydon Eisele said. "And I've been coming to this mall ever since I was a little kid and I feel very passionate about it. And I think it is very sad."
"It's heartbreaking, it really is. It's heartbreaking for a lot of people," Shanica Swain of Anderson added. "Like I said, a lifetime of memories, a lifetime of memories. I was born in '85 and ever since I was born, five and up, I remember coming here."
The Mounds Mall 10 Theater and Dr. David Tavel's office both have outside entrances, and both plan to remain open.
