Motorcyclist suffers life-threatening injuries after being ejected during crash in Kokomo

Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries during the collision.

KOKOMO, Ind. — A motorcyclist is at an Indianapolis hospital with life-threatening injuries after an early morning crash in Kokomo on Friday. 

According to a release from the Kokomo Police Department, around 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 9, KPD officers responded to the intersection of North Washington and West Monroe streets on a report of a vehicle crash with serious bodily injury. 

Officers arrived and found the crash involved a minivan and a motorcycle. According to the preliminary investigation, police believe a 24-year-old man was driving the minivan eastbound on Monroe Street and stopped for the stop sign at the Washington Street intersection. The driver of the minivan crossed the intersection as the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Washington Street. 

The motorcyclist reportedly struck the van on the left rear driver's side, ejecting them from the motorcycle. Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries during the collision. The motorcyclist was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for extensive treatment. 

Police have not released the condition of the motorcyclist.
