Midland - The mother of a 16-month-old who was shot to death while on a walk with his father is speaking out.

The shooting happened Sunday night in Midland in Greene county.

Ronald Bohannon told police a bullet hit his son, Travis Bohannon, as he pushed him in a stroller. Police arrested Bohannon Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting.

The boy's mother was not there, but got the devastating call.  "I screamed so loud the neighbors across the street heard me," said Jamie Bohannon.

That night, investigators searched the area for hours, but found no shell casings. Prosecutors say on Wednesday morning, a handgun was found in a wooded area near the site.

The coroner has ruled the death a homicide and investigators say the shooting was not a stray bullet, but would not give anymore details.

The boy's mother, who is in the process of divorcing the baby's father, says her husband would not hurt the child.

"No, no, never. He would never hurt his boys intentionally, " Jamie Bohannon said. "My baby died, right now, in a tragic accident, that's all we know that it was accidentally. My son was accidentally shot."

Police in Vigo County arrested the toddler's father on a warrant for unrelated charges.

The funeral for Travis Bohannon is set for Friday.
