A week after the shooting, Schwab spoke exclusively with 13News' Jennie Runevitch about her injury, recovery and gratitude to the community.
"Like for the worst scenario, I got extremely lucky," Schwab said.
Schwab said in the days immediately following the shooting, community support helped her heal — from strangers to schoolkids sending her cards.
"It's not, 'What have they done?'" Schwab said. "What haven't they done? Everybody has reached out, even people that I don't know. Schools keep sending me cards. I've got a stack at home that I read all the time, so it's great. I'm very grateful for everything."
Schwab has been an Army reservist for 12 years in addition her time as a police officer and deputy. She told 13News in late January there's no other job she'd rather do than protect the public.
On May 22, the sheriff's office said Schwab had been cleared to return to full duty.
"Welcome back, Mallory! Your shift is ready for you," the sheriff's office said in a social media post.
