Mooresville police asking for help locating missing 3-year-old

Dustin Ortiz, 3, was last seen with his mother, Laura Gasper. Gasper is believed to be in the Indianapolis area driving a red 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.

MOORESVILLE, Ind. — The Mooresville Police Department is asking for the public's help locating a missing 3-year-old child. 

Dustin Ortiz was last known to be with his mother, Laura Gasper. Morgan County Department of Child Services is looking for Ortiz in order to serve a court order for his safety.

Attempts by DCS to locate Gasper and her son have so far failed. Gasper's last know addresses are 1984 Falcon Court in Franklin and 107 W. South St. in Mooresville. 

Police said Gasper was last seen in the Indianapolis area and is believed to be driving a red 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. 

Anyone who locates Gasper or Ortiz is asked to contact 911 or their local law enforcement agency.

Amber Alert vs. Silver Alert: What's the difference?  

There are specific standards a person's disappearance must meet in order for police to declare an Amber Alert or a Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are believed to have been abducted and in danger. Police also need to have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.                                       

Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common for missing people. It was not until last year when the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.      

In both situations, these alerts must be issued by police.
