Metro police conducting death investigation on Indy's south side

IMPD said officers found a person with 'injuries consistent with trauma.'

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman on the south side Sunday. 

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers went to the 6700 block of Greenwich Drive at 6 p.m. for a death investigation. 

When they arrived, they found a woman who had been shot. Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced her deceased.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 21-year-old Derisha Young and ruled her death a homicide from a gunshot wound to the head. 

No other details, such as a possible suspect have been released.
