INDIANAPOLIS — Days after an almost-tragic incident at Haughville Park, members of a local church came back to the area to deliver some hope.
Members of Victory Tabernacle Apostolic Faith Church say they are doing their best to make the world a better place — starting with their own community of Haughville.
"We are trying to bring this neighborhood together but we know it's going to take God to do it," said Wilford Harris.
The community is returning to its new normal after three men were injured in a shooting just days ago at Haughville Park.
"Everything's fine. We want to pray for the families and victims," said Timothy Williams Sr.
Some of the members of the church were actually at the park the Saturday before the shooting, doing what they do every week — cleaning it up, singing and praying with community members, walking the surrounding neighborhoods and speaking with residents.
This Saturday was no different.
"We got to really target the men because that's where your crime and drugs and a lot of us been there. A lot of times I say when I'm talking, I say don't look at the suit because behind this suit is a story," Harris said.
Their goal is to change people's lives and hearts.
"We just looking for that one person that's willing to say look, I've tried everything else in life. Let me try Jesus," Harris said.
They said they're not discouraged by Tuesday's shootings in fact it's the opposite.
"It's just our job to get out here to put a stifle on the crime. Stop it if we can but if we can't? Just keep praying. We love our neighborhood," Harris said
They plan to be right back at the park next week.
