Maru, a shiba inu with more than two million Instagram followers, has been named the new tourism ambassador for Japan's Mie Prefecture.
The eight-year-old is the country's first non-human to hold such a position.
His owner began posting his pictures on Instagram four years ago.
Officials hope Maru will attract more tourists as they prepare to host the G-7 summit next year.
