INDIANAPOLIS — More than 30 Center Township deputy constables are back on the job in Marion County.
Constable Denise Hatch fired her entire staff on Feb. 23, saying she needed to gain the public's trust and make sure the deputies were equipped for the job. Her decision came after police arrested two of the deputies on felony charges.
Hatch told the fired deputies they needed to get a nationwide criminal background check before she could re-hire them.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 32 deputies had been reinstated and six new deputies had applied for the job.
Hatch herself was recently charged with official misconduct, assisting a criminal, resisting arrest and theft.
